Auditory Cortex started out as a solo project by Diego in 2017 after his departure from the local ska scene in the Inland Empire. The Oblivescence EP (2019) was his first attempt at writing, recording, mixing, and releasing an EP. Positive feedback from friends, family, and even random people on the internet inspired him to continue. What started out as a gothic, hippie, metalhead writing music alone in his room has since evolved into a four-piece band writing and performing as a group. Their music swims through surf, indie, and psychedelic waters, with flickers of The Smiths, Cindy Lee, Charlie Megira, and Pink Floyd in the mix. However, they certainly wouldn't like to be limited by the sound these artists have created. Instead, they aim to incorporate harmonic, melodic, and rhythmic ideas from distant genres such as punk, metal, disco, classical. ​

 

The band members include Spikey on bass, Ari on guitar and keys, Bruce on percussion, and Diego on vocals, lead guitar, and lead writer/arranger. Auditory Cortex was created to stray away from conventional music and experiment with blending many different sounds and genres. The goal of the group is to create their own art from top to bottom and share it with people who appreciate original music that is reminiscent of the past but doesn't replicate it.
