Biography
Diego Dueñas Hernandez is a musician, poet, composer, audio-engineer, producer, and a Cum Laude graduate of California State University of San Bernardino, based in Perris, California. Born on January 16, 1995, in Montebello, California, Diego was always surrounded by music that profoundly influenced his development. His father frequently played a diverse array of music, ranging from the timeless classics of Pedro Infante and Jorge Negrete to the energetic rhythms of Perez Prado and the nostalgic tunes of Los Baby's, among other "viejitas" (Mexican oldies). This rich musical environment laid the foundation for Diego's lifelong passion for music.
As an adolescent, Diego's interest in music was further nurtured by his older brother and cousins, who introduced him to various genres that would shape his musical identity. Punk, rock, heavy metal, and ska were the sounds that defined his teenage years, inspiring him to join a local band during his early high school years. These experiences not only honed his skills as a musician but also instilled in him a deep appreciation for the collaborative and transformative power of music. Diego's musical journey did not end with his high school band. Instead, his passion for music continued to evolve, leading him to explore new genres and styles. Currently, he writes and produces psychedelic and indie-rock music under the name Auditory Cortex, a project that showcases his eclectic influences and innovative approach to music. He performs with three other talented bandmates, creating a dynamic and captivating live experience.
Diego graduated in the Spring of 2024 from California State University of San Bernardino with a degree in composition, earning Cum Laude honors. His studies in composition have equipped him with the skills and insights needed to craft intricate and emotionally resonant musical works that include two original pieces for orchestra during his time at CSUSB. His first, titled "A Blackthorn Winter," premiered in May 2023, and his last, titled "The Mourning Sun," premiered in May 2024. Both were performed by the CSUSB Symphonic Orchestra.
Looking to the future, Diego has ambitious plans to expand his career in composition for film and audio engineering. He is driven by a desire to push the boundaries of his craft, exploring new ways to integrate music and storytelling. His ultimate goal is to create works that leave a lasting impact, both on the audience and on the art form itself.
